Just Because Theres No Revolution Yet Dosn't Mean We Can't Have Any Next-Gen Nintendo Fun

Joystiq is having a "Pimp My Xbox 360 Faceplate" contest, and I made this in Paint Shop Pro to enter. It requires a real faceplate to be made, but I explained that I did stand out for a 360, missed it, and dont have a faceplate edit. Oh well, I hope they accept it, but one person on the comments atleast likes my edit!

There's A New Patent By Nintendo Concerning "Virtual Console"

As found by the website Revolution Report, it seems that Nintendo has a new patent outlining it's virtual console plans. This talks about some technology involved, layout, and even possible new changes. One surprising thing to see if that it mentions that the emulators can run the games solely on the Revolution's CPU, without using the GPU, meaning that it will have a powerful CPU. It mentioned this for NES and SNES, but we do not know if the Revolution would need it's GPU for N64 games, although it most likely would. It says again that games would be offered at low cost, with the seemingly explanation that because it only has to re-distribute the ROM, and not the emulator with it everytime. Think of using an emulator and ROM for your computer, you download one emulator and tons of ROMS for it. Xbox 360 on the other hand though uses multiple emulators for multiple games because one emulator alone could not be made to perfectly play every game, on the one Xbox 360 system setup. It just wouldn't be powerful enough. As for the layout, it seems to have a great layout. You can choose games according to franchise such as Mario, Zelda, and others, or I would imagine you could choose games from NES, SNES, N64, and maybe others. It seems to also offer expandibility so maybe we could Sega taking advantage of this as they were interested to offer some classic Genesis games for download, like our old favorite Sonic games. There is also hinting at how we can see the difference in games. I was kinda confused about this, but going back to what Iwata said about playing games the same, but maybe seeing them different, you might be able to choose what character you play the game with. Imagine going back and playing Super Mario Bros., and now making it Super Wario Bros. That would be pretty weird, yet awesome.
