More Colors For The DS Lite To Be Shown

My hopes for a glossy black DS Lite have been fullfilled, kinda. While reading around more about the DS Lite, I found out that Nintendo announced that the DS Lite will be unveiled in 3 different colors, although the only official color so far is the glossy white. I would be very surprised if there wasn't a glossy black also availible at launch seeing the popularity of the Black Revolution.

Following Revolution Exclusive: Comparing The Nintendo DS and (Model Of) DS Lite

Some of you may of had the first thought I did about the DS Lite, and that was, is it worth it for something not that much smaller? Comparing the GBASP and the GBM, the size comparison was insane, the GBM was so insanely small that it might have easily been worth it for all you GBA fans. Now I'm a DS enthusiast so you would expect me to be really hyped up, and I am, but with some concerns. With size in mind, Nintendo says that it is less than 2/3 the size of the original. I took the dimensions provided by Nintendo of Japan and made my own model of the DS Lite with cardboard covered with electrical tape. Now of course its not EXACTLY the size of what it will be due to human error, but it's very very close. Just to show you the model I made with it next to the original DS, I put a small video together displaying the two next to each other showing different angles. Just click the link below to download the video. Then again, if the size dosn't exactly do it for you, the re-designed d-pad, buttons, button (and microphone) placement might, and brighter screen might. All in all I'm betting it will be a great product and it will sell tons, although for a possible $150, I don't know if it will be worth it right away for current DS owners to pop for the new one.

Introducing The Nintendo DS Lite!!!

Earlier today Nintendo unveiled it's new Nintendo DS Lite. The company boasts that the new handheld is less than 2/3 the size of the old one, with new dimensions of 133mm x 73.9mm x 21.5mm. Also by looking at the picture it seems to help fix up the d-pad and face buttons. The system will launch in Japan on March 2nd of this year, with a US launch date to come. The system is told to also have a brighter screen compared to the last one. Here's the question though, is it so much different than the old DS? The GameBoy Micro was incredibly small compared to any past GBA, but after sketching the dimensions on paper of the DS Liter and holding my DS next to it, I wonder if this will really be a big improvement. It is also lighter, which will help a lot, and those buttons I'm sure are a ton better. The system will launch in Japan for 16,800 yen, which is about $144 in US. If the system sells for $150 in the US, I really doubt that I will buy it right away. Though I would love to, that is a steep price to pay for something not groundbreaking compared to the original. If it was somehow in the $100-$120 mark, then maybe I would consider it. The system also looks to have a sleek "apple-esque" glossy white look, although I don't know if I would swing for that. Introduce a glossy-black though, and I'll be all over it. It is currently unsure if it plays GBA games, but the chances or if not are a million to one, because of expansion packs such as then rumble pack, so expect a GBA slot. Call me crazy if you wish, but I just thought they could have done a little more. Maybe if I get good trade-in credit or eBay money for my DS I will consider getting it.
