Jack Thompson, You Have Gone Too Far...

Surely you have heard of Jack Thompson before, he's the monster who is trying to kill all video games. Now this may be known as libel against Mr. Thompson, but it is him who first wronged attacking with libel against the video games industry. Time after time he has gone after the likes of Grand Theft Auto and other games such as 25 To Life, Killer 7, Postal, and even The Sims 2! He believes that pracitcally every single death or act of violence can be traced to video games and their negative impact on society. Now of course someone like myself, whos life is practically video games (not fully literally, I do plenty other things), is starting to get quite angry at his actions. The video game industry has done it's part with the ESRB rating games, so he should be looking more after the parents. Don't start saying that ratings are never enforced, because I have been carded planty of times, for trying to buy games such as Resident Evil 4 and Dead Or Alive 4. Even something that has no connections to gaming, he of course says its the source of the problem. His latest act of stupidity and blaming of video games has come in the form of a gamer taking his own life. Here is the following story as told from GamingHorizon.com:

"Earlier this month, gamer named Mitchell S. with the online screenname "Kuja105" who posts on a few online videogame forums (including GameFaqs.com and MetalGearSolid.org) committed suicide. On January 2 he posted a message in both forums detailing his intent to end his own life, citing overwhelming complications with school and finances.

A very brief period of initial disbelief was followed by a barrage of replies from fellow forum members pleading that he not take his life, trying to talk him out of it.

For days, no word was heard from Mitchell. Fearing the worst, members and administration from metalgearsolid.org began searching for contact information, spending hours on the phone trying to get in touch with him. Finally on January 4, Ryan K., an administrator at metalgearsolid.org, got him on the phone and spent hours desperately trying to talk him out of it.

Sadly, Mitchell soon ended his own life by consuming antifreeze and painkillers.

Later, members from the site contacted Mitchell's family to find out the grave news. They reported it to their online community, and posted a tribute to their passed friend on the front page of metalgearsolid.org."

Jack Thompsons of course had to send a nice letter to MetalGearSolid.org. The letter is as follows:

"Your "gamer friend" will find peace through the Lord, Jesus Christ, but sadly it's too late for that.

There is a void in every heart. You can fill it up with the things of God, or the things not of God. This unfortunate soul chose to fill it up with combat games. The playing of these video games is masturbatory activity, meaning senseless self-stimulation. If you gamers could use a dictionary you would know that that term is not necessarily a sexual one.

The real tragedy here extends beyond the life and death of this one fellow. There are literally millions of young people and young adults whose despair is deepend by turning to the things of this world and then finding them meaningless.

All of you gamers need to put down the controllers and get a life. The utter inanity of the vast majority of postings here shows how vapid "gaming" really is.

You are one of the cheerleaders for this wasting of time and the wasting of lives. Do you feel any remorse for having contributed to this "culture of death?" Of course not. Hey, let's all play MORE games, and ignore all the really productive things to do with our lives.

Let's pretend to be shocked that a gamer might descend into deeper depression, as his gamer "buds," knowing he was killing himself, couldn't figure out how to call 911 themselves for him. That would have involved leaving their computers I guess.

Sad. Sad for all of you."

Oh I'm sorry, did I say nice letter? I meant the exact opposite. The article had said that Mitchell said he took his life do to overwhelming complications with school and finances. It did not mention video games at all. But since he was a gamer evidentally, Thompson had to make his accusations. Maybe he shoulda taken his time from writing the letter against video games, and write a letter of grief and sadness to the family of Mitchell, because they are surely going through tough times right now. Thompson is outright making fun of gamers like you and I with comments like we wouldn't even call 911 if we needed to because we would have to leave our computers. I also like how my playing of video games is contributing to a "culture of death." You can post a letter like this anytime you want Jack, but why post it in a time of sadness after the death of a gamer. This is definately not the time. If you wanted publicity from this Thompson, you got it, negative publicity. Saying terrible things about Mitchell how it's too late to find peace through Jesus Christ is just down right terrible. What if he was Muslim? Haha, only a joke. But I want everyone to known what has happened just so they can tell how terrible and un-sympathetic Jack Thompson is. He should be exiled to Antartica...

By the way, I currently in the middle of playing through Killer 7. M rated games such as Killer 7, GTA San Andreas, Dead Or Alive 4, Resident Evil 4 and others are all amazing games. They are here for a reason with providing a different gaming experience than our Marios and Sonics. We need to embrace all types of games, whether violent or not. It's up to the developer what kind of game to make, and it's up to the player to decide which game to play. It's all the gamers fault to decide what to do with their life, and is no way the fault of companies like Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Capcom, Tecmo, Rockstar, Sega, Activision, and many more.
