Following Revolution's End Of The Year Awards!

This year of 2005 has shown us a wide variety of games and all around gaming news and announcements. With unveiling of the all next-generation systems, the launch of a next generation system, and tons and tons of top-notch games, it was tough finding winners for each of the categories. I'm not going all big time what not like IGN might, and I'm going to cut straight to the basics. Games of the year.
(Note: I do not own an Xbox and have not played too many games for it, but I will base my judgements for awards based on what I have played for the system, and with my extensive knowledge of games. I will not be including Xbox 360 or PSP in any game of the year awards. The 360 has been out for just over a month, and I havn't played any games for it except the Kameo and Call of Duty 2 Demos. As for PSP, let's just say I don't feel like writing that much about such a system. Let's just say GTA Liberty City Stories and call it a day.)

GameCube Game of The Year:
Resident Evil 4

Did you expect me to pick anything else? Well maybe if Twilight Princess had come out, but due to an extrordinary amount of delays, Resident Evil 4 easily takes the award. Noteably, Resident Evil 4 isn't even a Nintendo game! Third party developer Capcom made this fine game bringing the mature gaming that gamers yearned for to the black (or purple... or spice... or platinum...) lunchbox. Whoever said all violent video games are terrible has not played this game. The game's story line is top notch following Leon Kennedy, assigned to rescure the President's Daughter as he travels to Spain and finds races of parasites that infect the bodies of humans turning them zombie like, yet having the intelligence of a human. The game shows off some of the best graphics of any current generation game availible on any system, great controls, lengthy gameplay, high replayability, and more. Unless you aren't 17 yet (I bought the game while I was 16 though), buy this game right now. Go drive over to your local games store, and buy it. End of story. If you've played it many times, then if you don't mind spending the money, you can even pick it up on the PS2 now (note the Only For GameCube on the corner of the box), which has extra gameplay modes, though lower graphics. If you have to choose between one, get the GameCube version by all means. GameCube has way better controls, graphics, and it's the Cube!

Playstation 2 Game Of The Year:
We Love Katamari

Every "hard-core" gamer that loves games like Shadow of the Collosus, Tekken 5, Soul Calibur 3, and Burnout Revenge just skipped a heart beat. Well I stand by my choice of picking We Love Katamari for Game of the Year for PS2. The original Katamari was one of the main reasons I bought a PS2 and havn't regreted it since. Just after beating Katamari Damacy, I rushed out to EB on launch day and bought We Love Katamari and was amazed at what I played. What I played was a truly innovative, addictive, and fun game. "Oh but it's just more Katamari! I'm fine with the original!" Many of you say, well I say go lock yourself up. We Love Katamari takes the innovative gameplay created from Katamari Damacy, and mixes it up beyond belief. You're know rolling under water, in the sky, and many other levels with crazy missions such as rolling up Hansel and Gretel's Gingerbread House, or saving the Earth from a meteor. Graphics have been slightly upgraded, and the music has also been stepped up a notch. You can now listen to new hits such as Katamari On The Swing, and Song For The King Of Kings. Don't like the Prince? Well now you can play with a HUGE assortment of crazy looking cousins. Didn't think the max out size of around 800m was enough in the first game? Well now quench your thirst with over 3500m size possible in this game. Priced at only $30, if you have a PS2, there is no reason not to have this game.

Xbox Game of the Year:
Psychonauts

Now remember that I haven't played this game or many other Xbox games, also considering I probably havn't touched the console since the summer maybe. I am quite surprised to see that Psychonauts did'nt sell well. Tim Schafer is a well known name for his success in games like Grim Fandango and Curse of Monkey Island. Psychonauts is an innovative game in which you travel into the minds of people as your levels. The game has a very unique art style, although could be a hit or miss. You either like it or not. The characters are very believeable with great personality and with amazing voice overs. The game has been released for the PS2 and PC, but wanting a good controller in hand, drop the PC, and wanting good graphics, drop the PS2. The game shouldn't be much now, maybe $20. Give it a shot!

Nintendo DS Game of the Year
Mario Kart DS

This definately was not a hard choice. Though we have seen great games like Canvas Curse, Nintendogs, Sonic Rush, and Animal Crossing, Mario Kart stands amongst them as the best. The game launch alongside Tony Hawk's American Sk8land to bring online play for the first time to a Nintendo system, and it launched with a bang. The online became an instant success with over 50% of people trying online. The game has a long extensive 1 player mode, with tons of GPs to do, characters and karts to unlock, time trials, and a whole new mission mode. The game doesn't stop there. You also have a LAN multiplayer with either single or multi kart. With multi card, you can choose between every level availible, and with single kart you have 8 courses, and every person without a game plays as the character Shy-Guy, whom you can't play as with the game. The game nails every aspect almost perfectly, being the best Mario Kart ever, and the best DS game to date.

GBA Game of the Year:
Gunstar Super Heroes

It has been way too long since the first Gunstar Heroes, but after the extremely long wait Sega has finally delivered. We now can play Gunstar Super Heroes, the new AMAZING sequel to Gunstar Heroes for the Genesis. What's Gunstar Heroes you say? If you don't know what Gunstar Heroes was, then go buy it now on something like eBay, or maybe ROM it (ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE ORIGINAL! *wink wink*). Gunstar Super Heroes provides a perfect quick fix gameplay for when your on the go. Fire it up, blast through a stage, then play some more later. The game is very similar to the original, but in a very good way, The graphics are very similar, the gameplay is very similar, the bosses are the same but in new contraptions, and much more. The game has a new more anime like style to tell the story of the game when combined with the in game real time graphics, shows off some of the best graphics ever seen on the GBA. The game could have been longer, but you can't complain with two different characters, and three very ranging difficulties. There is infact only one main problem with this game, which is multiplayer. Multiplayer in the original was one of it's key aspects, and they left it out of the new game. I wish this was instead made for something like the DS where you can have easy wireless multiplayer, or perhaps for a console like the Cube. If you have a GBA or DS, buy this now.
